”SUPERMODERN 2013” Programme, The Gold Police Star and The Silver Police Star Award at Europoltech 2013, Warsaw
During Europoltech 2013, AGH University of Science and Technology and Gdansk University of Technology took part in the SUPERMODERN 2013 Programme. This project’s mission is to promote products of the greatest usefulness to the police and national security services, which feature novel technical solutions and unique operational qualities. Products which meet these expectations are selected by the Award Committee – EUROPOLTECH Programme Council, which includes the deputy chief commanders of the police and national security services.
In this competition Gdansk University of Technology was awarded ”The Gold Police Star” for the acoustic-visual remote observation system and AGH University of Technology (Department of Telecommunications) was awarded ”The Silver Police Star” for fraud detection in digital images system – MITIS (“Malicious Image Tampering Identification System”).
The main task of the MITIS system is to detect forgery and tampering in digital images. Forgeries are easy due to availability of retouch and image processing software. The system allows for identification of maliciously tampered image regions, e.g. fabricated text. Additionally, MITIS can recover the original appearance of the modified content. MITIS system, responsible for applying and configuring the protection mechanism, can be implemented directly in the acquisition device, which makes sure the photographs are protected as soon as they are taken.
