AGH University of Science and Technology awarded by the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education for promotion of Polish inventions

AGH University of Science and Technology received the prestigious award of the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education, which was granted for a particular activity in promotion of inventions on international arena in 2013.

Presentation of diplomas and statuettes was held on the 11th February 2014 in Copernicus Science Centre (Warsaw) during the opening of “XXI Stock Exchange Inventions awarded on international exhibitions and fairs innovation in 2013”. The special guests of ceremony were Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Economy as well as Undersecretary of State in the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The event was held under the honorary patronage of: Minister of Science and Higher Education, Minister of Economy, Polish Patent Office, Polish Agency for Enterprise Development.

During the two exhibition’s days solutions were presented, which received in 2013 medals and prizes on international fairs and exhibitions of inventions: in France, Belgium, Germany, Korea, Republic of China, Czech Republic, Ukraine, United States, Romania, Turkey, Croatia.

AGH University of Science and Technology, INDECT Project Coordinator, was represented by five inventions, including:

1.  MITIS- System to identify unauthorized changes to digital images

(MITIS) Malicious image tampering identification system is a state-of-the-art solution for active protection of digital images against forgeries. It allows for accurate identification of image regions affected by unauthorized content modifications. One of the most important features is the capability to restore the original content of the tampered fragments. The reconstruction procedure is highly reconfigurable, and features several quality levels. The tampered fragments can be restored when even up to 67% of the image area becomes tampered. When implemented directly on the acquisition device, provides efficient, state-of-the-art protection for digital evidence. More information can be obtained at http://mitis.kt.agh.edu.pl.

2.  INSTREET – the algorithm of automatic geo-location images on the basis of their content.

The INSTREET algorithm allows specifying the location where the picture was taken only on the basis of the content of the image. The algorithm works by visual analysis similarity of architectural elements in the picture to the database of examples. Using the algorithm, INSTREET user only indicates the characteristic detail architectural images. In order to find the right place one must view only about 20 results.

INSTREET was awarded with the “Medal of the European Chamber of French Inventors” as well. More information can be obtained at: http://instreet.indect-project.eu/.
