BRUSSELS INNOVA 2013 – World Exhibition on Innovation Research and New Technologies

62 World’s Fair “BRUSSELS INNOVA 2013” took place on 14-16 November 2013 in Brussels. The Fair was dedicated to technology transfer and implementation of technical progress.

Fair collected solutions from 14 countries i.e.: Belgium, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, France, Iran, Moldova, Malaysia, Polish, Russia, Romania, Taiwan, and Italy. Numerous representatives of the media (television, radio, and press) visited the event as well.

Presented solutions were submitted to the EUREKA INNOVA Fair competition.  More than 90 experts evaluated inventions.  President of the Jury presented the prize.

The ceremony of the official announcement of the results EUREKA and the award ceremony were held on 16th November 2013.

At the Fair, the research group of the AGH University of Science and Technology (Department of Telecommunications), INDECT Project Coordinator, received two gold medals for:

1. System to identify unauthorized changes to digital images

(MITIS) Malicious image tampering identification system is a state-of-the-art solution for active protection of digital images against forgeries. It allows for accurate identification of image regions affected by unauthorized content modifications. One of the most important features is the capability to restore the original content of the tampered fragments. The reconstruction procedure is highly reconfigurable, and features several quality levels. The tampered fragments can be restored when even up to 67% of the image area becomes tampered. When implemented directly on the acquisition device, provides efficient, state-of-the-art protection for digital evidence. More information can be obtained at http://mitis.kt.agh.edu.pl.

    2. INSTREET – the algorithm of automatic geo-location images on the basis of their content.

    The INSTREET algorithm allows specifying the location where the picture was taken only on the basis of the content of the image. The algorithm works by visual analysis similarity of architectural elements in the picture to the database of examples. Using the algorithm, INSTREET user only indicates the characteristic detail architectural images. In order to find the right place one must view only about 20 results.

    INSTREET was found to be awarded “Medal of the European Chamber of  French Inventors” as well. More information can be obtained at: http://instreet.indect-project.eu/.
