INDECT co-organized the 4th International Workshop on Future Multimedia Networking which was held from 14 to 17 January 2012 in Las Vegas, NV, USA. The event was collocated with IEEE's Consumer Communications and Networking Conference.

The objective of The Fourth Future Multimedia Networking workshop was to discuss state-of-the-art research and developing activities contributing to aspects of multimedia systems, and networking. This year’s theme was “Future Multimedia Networking: Entertainment and Beyond”. The goal was to look beyond the challenges arising from entertainment services also considering the specific requirements coming from other domains. Therefore a considerable promotion of novel topics specifically focusing on these areas was involved.


The topics included in the conference agenda were:

  2. Multimedia/Content/Service/People-centric Networking
  3. Social Multimedia Networking
  4. Network security pertaining to new multimedia applications and networks
  5. Acquisition of multimedia content and Quality of Experience management in future multimedia networking and CCTV networks:

  7. Multimedia security issues & process control
  8. CCTV-driven road traffic management
  9. Multimedia guidance systems
  10. Multimedia in healthcare systems
  11. Seamless multimedia mobility
  12. Network measurement/monitoring and performance evaluation of multimedia services
  13. Reliability, availability and serviceability of multimedia services
  14. Advanced searching methods, search engines and applications for multimedia database
  15. Multimedia surveillance and compound security
  16. Semantic description of multimedia data and metadata information systems
  17. Modern computing methods for multimedia systems and authentication of multimedia contents
  18. Interactive multimedia applications
  19. Ethical issues in video surveillance and Internet monitoring – systems and algorithms for safeguarding of information
