"New opportunities of supporting the disabled" Conference
INDECT coordinator, prof. Andrzej Dziech, took part in the conference entitled "New Technologies - New opportunities of supporting the disabled" which was held on March 24, in Krakow.
He addressed a speech on application of an intelligent system supporting people with sight disabilities and the blind. INDECT Project also provided for certain applications to ensure the safety of blind people in urban areas. The presentation showed that, considering their disability, the blind seem most vulnerable to accidents and becoming victims of threats in urban environment.
The INDECT techniques which are most applicable for such situations are methods of image recognition (e.g. bus numbers) and sound recognition (speaker's announcements). Professor Dziech also discussed the legal aspects of such implementation.
